After a 40-year career in tech, first as a software engineer and later as an engineering executive in Silicon Valley, I retired to travel the world with my wife. I still enjoy programming and so I started taking online data science classes. This worked well because I could do the homework while I was on long flights to far flung parts of the world. As I got to be proficient in data science, I started looking for a hobby project to work on. I learned both Python and R, but have become partial to R.
I decided to collect data about the general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I scraped the churchofjesuschrist.org web site and built some large data files. Based on those data files, I built a Shiny app that presents the data.
